  • OUIs

    The following driver was apprehended by local law enforcement and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of an Intoxicating Substance (OUI):

    Jeremy M. Perry, 25, of Oxford was arrested at 1:35 a.m. on July 9 on Main Street in Norway and charged with OUI. Norway Police Officer Stephen Witham made the arrest. Perry has one prior OUI conviction from 2007.

    Thursday, June 30

    14:06 – Robert R. Flanders, born 3-17-60, of 655 King St., Oxford, was arrested in Oxford by Oxford Police Officer Alan Coffin and charged with Probation Violation.

    15:55 – Michael S. Hitchcock, born 6-3-82, of 160 West Minot Road, Oxford, was arrested by Oxford Police Officer Alan Coffin and charged with DV Assault (D).

  • Oxford woman in good condition following crash

    OXFORD CRASH — Sharon Huntley-Brown of Oxford was transported to Central Maine Medical Center on the morning of July 4 after driving off the road and into a tree. Police are currently investigatign the cause of the crash.

  • No injuries

    NO INJURIES — Donald Edwards, 26, of Paris escaped without injury after totaling his 1995 Honda Civic. Paris Police responded to the crash at 9:20 p.m. on Friday night. Lieutenant Michael Dailey said that Edwards appeared to have hit a bump on Oxford Road and lost control of his car before veering into a tree.

  • SOUTH PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from Maine Superior Court in Oxford County from April 1, to May 31.

    Marcia J. Ackerman, DOB 8/9/59, of Brownfield, was charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs and Cultivating Marijuana on 8/25/10 in Brownfield by Oxford Sheriff.  The first charge was dropped, found guilty on the second charge and fined $3,000.

  • Not-so-good old days

    As often as not, while perusing old newspapers for crimes and woes of our forebears, we come across evidence that issues commonly thought of as "current" actually have quite a history. They've been discussed before and could even be run today with little change. Immigration is one such topic. In the 1750s, Ben Franklin is said to have editorialized against the people who were bringing their alien customs and language. He was speaking of Germans.

    22:36 – Rene A. Giberson, born 7-12-87, of 7 Jacobs Alley, Dixfield, was arrested on Weld St. by Dixfield Police Officer Anne Edmunds and charged with Violation of Bail Conditions.
