LOVELL — A recent break-in at an abandoned farmhouse has members of the Lovell Neighborhood Watch (LNW) concerned about their town.

Member Roxanne Craig said that the incident, which took place near the Lake Kezar Country Club, points to the fact that local properties can be vulnerable to criminal mischief.

On August 19, a group of kids broke into the farmhouse in broad daylight, smashed windows, broke a door, and entered the owner's camper.

  • Not-so-good old days

Back on March 27, 1931, readers of the Norway Advertiser read of the loss of a Waterford woman's house:

    Plummer House Burned

Tuesday, March 24th, Miss Carrie Plummer’s house burned to the ground. There had been a chimney fire during the day, but Miss Plummer had kept careful watch, and it seemed that everything was all right, but late in the afternoon the house was found to be on fire. The church bell was rung and the telephone summoned people from all around, and a crowd gathered as quickly as possible, but the building was doomed.
