  • Norway church burglarized

    NORWAY —  The Oxford Hills Christian Fellowship was burglarized recently, a sign that the iniquity of man is getting worse and worse, according to a report from the church. 

    According to Norway Police Chief Robert Federico, the incident happened some time between Thursday, August 23 at 2 p.m. and Saturday, August 25 at 8:25 a.m.  

    The church is located at 10 Country Club Road in Norway.

  • Maine Superior Court - Oxford County

    SOUTH PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from Maine Superior Court in Oxford County from July 1, to July 31.

    Angela M. St. Pierre, DOB 9/14/79, of New Gloucester, was charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass and Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer on 5/3/11 in Oxford by Oxford Police. The first charge was dropped, found guilty on the second and third charges and probation for one year and restitution of $1,500 on the second charge and given a suspended sentence on the third charge.

    SOUTH PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from Maine Superior Court in Oxford County from July 1, to July 31.

    Kevin J. Nasatowicz, DOB 9/20/59, of Rumford, was charged with OUI on 1/24/12 in Rumford by Rumford Police. He was found guilty and fined $500, sentenced for 48 hours and license suspended for 90 days.

  • Maine District Court Oxford County

    SOUTH PARIS — The following is the Closed Case Report from Maine District Court in Oxford County from July 1, to July 31.

    Richard Albert, DOB 6/9/54, of Waterford, was charged with OUI on 1/7/12 in Waterford by Oxford Sheriff. He was found guilty and fined $500, sentenced for 96 hours and license suspended for 90 days.

    Joshua W. Appleby, DOB 9/7/84, of Woodstock, was charged with Violating Condition of Release and Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer on 1/30/12 in West Paris by Maine State Police. The charges were dropped.

  • Man crashes car into lake, escapes uninjured

    INTO THE WATER — Henry Guenthner, 76, a Massachusetts resident, crashed his 2000 Ford into Thompson Lake around 2:30 p.m. in the area of 65 Beechwoods Road in Oxford on August 22, reported Oxford Police Officer James Richardson. According to Guenthner, he did not have any passengers during the accident. Guenthner said he had trouble finding the brake when he was driving down near the water to park. Richardson said he believes the accident could be the result of a brake malfunction.

  • Not-so-good old days

    Returning again to the years of "The Great Depression," not all news was as depressing as the deaths we read about in this column last week.

    Much of the news, then as now, was "bad news" or "good news" for all the readers. It depended on the viewpoint of the individual reader. Those who still favored national laws prohibiting the production, transportation and/or sale of alcohol, for instance, probably saw this item as "good." Those opposed would have sympathized with the accused.

    08:00 – Tiffany Marie Loring, born 9-29-88, of 70 Maple Crest Rd., Parsonsfield, was arrested at Superior Court by Oxford County Sheriffs Dept. and charged with Burglary, Theft and Receiving Stolen Property.

    08:30 – Christopher Michael M. Burnell, born 4-1-83, of 18 Townline Row, Hiram, was arrested at Superior Court and charged with Burglary and Theft.
