'Grandparent' and 'lottery' scams reported in Paris
May 09, 2013 12:00 amPARIS — Former Interim Police Chief Mike Dailey reported in April that the department has been handling complaints of scams, particularly the "grandparent scam" and the "lottery scam."
"Typically what happens is, somebody will receive a call from someone [pretending] to be a family member saying they are in some type of trouble, either they've been arrested, or oftentimes, they've been involved in an accident and need help fixing their vehicle," Dailey explained, of the grandparent scam.

May 09, 2013 12:00 amSPEED A FACTOR — Firefighters inspect this stolen 1998 Dodge Intrepid after it went off the road and caught fire at 65 Buckfield Road in Paris Monday. According to Paris Police Officer Timothy Libby, police are still trying to find the suspect who fled the scene just moments after crashing the car. Speed is a definite factor in the crash, Libby said.
