Mar 24, 2011 12:01 amPARIS — A medical marijuana dispensary in Paris is a far-fetched possibility under current state law, but on March 14, local leaders took another small step towards preparing for the day when one might come to town.

Census report could cost Buckfield
Mar 24, 2011 12:01 amBUCKFIELD — An upcoming data release by the U.S. Census could have a big impact on Buckfield.
In 2010, the legislature approved a uniform set of state building codes, which have already taken effect for towns with large populations.
But for towns with fewer than 2,000 residents, the new changes won't take effect until July of 2012. Even that date is not a certain deadline for smaller towns, because some lawmakers are actively working to get the deadline moved, or abolished altogether, based on the notion that the rules might be too burdensome.

He also cited his residency in Oxford Hills as a major reason why the job suited him. His family has lived there for years and he and his wife have raised their seven children in the area.

Paris rethinks ATV access
Mar 17, 2011 12:21 amPARIS — An ordinance governing ATV use on town roads is in the works, after a 4-1 vote of the Board of Selectmen on Monday.
The board also agreed to seek legal advice on whether the board has the power to prevent ATVs from traveling on the extreme right of public ways.
The decisions are the latest that impact an ongoing struggle between ATV enthusiasts who want to connect trail systems by using town roads, and homeowners who object to the noise created by ATV traffic near their residences.

"Historically, the selectmen have given somewhere between 60 and 90 days to allow these property owners to come back in and pay the grand total," said Town Manager Glen Holmes, "which is all taxes, interest, lien costs, to current. Then they can buy their property back in a sense."

Waterford discusses single bus run
Mar 17, 2011 12:21 amWATERFORD — Parents, educators, and bus drivers came together on Thursday to discuss the potential impact that a switch to a mixed-age bus run could have on the Waterford community.

The SAD 17 school district is considering combining all ages into a single bus run, which would save the district an estimated $400,000 per year.
