Fire-gutted building bought by neighbor
May 26, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — Chris Farrar, owner of Ari's Pizza and Subs, has completed the purchase of the rooming house that burned two weeks ago on Main Street.
Farrar said that he intends to have the building torn down next week, and will use the space as a parking lot for his restaurant.
The building was previously owned by Madeline Pratt and her daughter, Vira Micklon.
Guns missing from Buckfield gunshop
May 26, 2011 12:00 amBUCKFIELD — The Oxford County Sheriff's Department notified local, state, and federal officials after two handguns were reported missing from Stone Gunshop in Buckfield.
Chief Deputy Dane Tripp reported that the stolen firearms were a Para Hawg 9 mm semi-automatic pistol valued at $800, and a Taurus PT 738 .380 ACP, valued at $320.
The department is currently investigating in an attempt to track down the perpetrators and the weapons, and has notified other enforcement agencies to be on the lookout.

Sumner citizens to decide on wind farm moratorium
May 26, 2011 12:00 amSUMNER — A June 6 date has been set for the people of Sumner to decide whether to institute a temporary ban on wind farms.
The selectmen unanimously accepted a recommendation from the Planning Board on Tuesday that a special town meeting be held to vote on a six-month moratorium for wind farms.
Members of the planning board said that the six-month delay will give the town time to draft a wind farm ordinance, which would establish rules for any wind farm project in Sumner.

May 26, 2011 12:00 amOTISFIELD — The ban on ATVs in Heniger Park in Otisfield will not extend to a "wood road" that serves as a throughway from Route 121 to Pleasant Lake.
Selectmen officially signed off on an agreement allowing the Otisfield Conservation Committee to post signs prohibiting ATV use on the hiking trails in the area.
Selectman Rick Micklon explained that the trails were on town land and were built for the use of hikers. The wood road, however, pre-existed the Heniger Park trails and had been used by ATV riders for years before.
Tri-Town loses Greenwood in close vote
May 26, 2011 12:00 amGREENWOOD — A week ago, Tri-Town Ambulance was on a path to overcome years of turmoil and financial troubles.
This week, a close vote in Greenwood has added to the beleaguered service's woes.
By a vote of 37-34, Greenwood voters decided that they would rather not renew their contract with Tri-Town, favoring instead to rely on PACE Ambulance Service.
"It was a fair vote," said Tri-Town representative John Hammel. "That's the way democracy works. There's not a lot of complaining we can do."
