Car, tractor-trailer collision sends three to the hospital

'eTip line' designed to combat underage drinking
Apr 04, 2013 12:00 amOXFORD HILLS — A local task-force was recently formed, with grant funds, to combat underage drinking and other area crimes with the help of an anonymous "eTip line," according to Healthy Oxford Hills program coordinator Chris Davis.
The Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Task Force, with representation from local law enforcement and the District Attorney's Office, will hold quarterly meetings to discuss trends and issues related to underage drinking in Oxford Hills, Davis reported.

Buckfield board votes against state budget resolution
Apr 04, 2013 12:00 amBUCKFIELD — A resolution opposing Governor Paul LePage's proposed state budget was voted down by selectmen during their meeting Tuesday.
The budget proposal eliminates municipal revenue sharing, reduces state reimbursement for General Assistance, allocates a portion of commercial excise tax to the state and eliminates some property tax breaks for those under age 65.
Opponents of the budget say it shifts state budget problems onto municipalities and local property owners.

New public comment guidelines for Buckfield
Apr 04, 2013 12:00 amBUCKFIELD — Selectmen adopted updated guidelines for public participation at their meetings in a unanimous vote during their meeting Tuesday.
The guidelines allow meeting attendees to provide input or ask questions about items as they come up on the agenda, replacing the previous practice of having two sections for public comments during meetings.
The procedure limited residents to speak only in reference to items on the agenda in the first section and upcoming agenda items in the second section.
Oxford Casino sold for $160m to Churchill Downs Inc.
Apr 04, 2013 12:00 amOXFORD — In its short life, Oxford Casino has been courted by five or six companies looking to make a deal.
Casino owners on Friday announced a sale to the parent company of Churchill Downs Racetrack, home of the Kentucky Derby, for $160 million cash.
"No offense to the others, but this one felt right," said developer Bob Bahre, a 30 percent owner of Black Bear Realty Co. with his son, Gary.
In its first six months of operation, Oxford Casino saw more than $30 million in net revenue, according to state records.
Residents complain about Cummings Road condition
Apr 04, 2013 12:00 amBUCKFIELD — A group of four residents are asking the town to address the poor condition of Cummings Road, a small dead-end street off of Allen School Road.
The residents presented their complaint to the board of selectmen at its meeting Tuesday.
Dale Eichorn, one the property owners on the road, said its condition had deteriorated to the point that it was easier and faster to walk the road than drive on it.
Five people get papers for Norway election
Apr 04, 2013 12:00 amNORWAY — Former Selectman Bruce Cook has taken out nomination papers for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.
The annual town election is June 11.
Cook, who served on the board from 2007 to 2010, is seeking one of two available seats currently held by Irene Millett and Michael Twitchell. Twitchell has also taken out nomination papers for one of the seats. Millett has not indicated whether she seeks to run for re-election.
