  • Hebron discusses meaning of 'junkyard'

    HEBRON — The difference between a junkyard and a salvage yard was discussed by the Board of Selectmen at its meeting Monday, after Code Enforcement Officer Bill Kennedy announced that Jayson Nelson, who owns a car repair business in town, is seeking a salvage dealer and recyclers license.

    "It sounds like a junkyard," said Selectman Jim Reid, of the site, located on Birch Way.

  • Internet access not top concern

    AREA — A meeting to address gaps in broadband access for local businesses was cancelled because of a lack of interest, said Glen Holmes, the incoming director of the Western Maine Economic Development Council (WMEDC).

    After inviting every town manager in the area, as well as various other interested parties, only three respondents indicated that they would attend the meeting, which was originally scheduled for February 8.

    The issue won't be at the top of Holmes' priority list, he said.

  • Paris board rescinds vote against Kurtz

    PARIS — Selectmen voted Monday to rescind a Jan. 23 vote excluding Selectman Ted Kurtz from discussion about the town's attorney, Geoffrey Hole.

    Kurtz said that vote was illegal Monday. After some discussion, the board voted 4-1 to rescind the vote, removing the Jan. 23 action. Selectman Jean Smart voted against rescinding.

    “What you did was totally illegal,” Kurtz told board members before the vote.
