WATERFORD SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS - Five students from the Waterford Memorial Elementary School received $100 Aspire Higher scholarships as a result of walking in this year's Oxford Hills Homecoming/Aspire Higher Parade on September 25. From left are Rep. Sawin Millett, Dick Danis and Margaret Emery, Principal. Students pictured from left are Isaac Masterman, second grade student and winner of Sawin Millett's scholarship; Dalton Cheever, third grade recipient of the Barbara and Dick Danis scholarship; Renee MacDonald, third grade student and winner of the Ed and Nancy Michaud scholarship and Cadence Allen, first grade student and winner of the New Balance Athletic Shoe scholarship. Missing from the picture is Cheyenne Thompson, pre-K student and winner of the Cash Family scholarship. This year there were 60 local businesses and community members that donated $100 scholarships to Oxford Hills students. The scholarship money is held in the Kiwanis Charitable Foundation until these students graduate from high school and enroll in a post-secondary institution. The primary goal of the "Aspire Higher" initiative, organized by the Aspire Higher Committee consisting of members from the School District and the Oxford Hills community, is to raise post-secondary aspirations of students by showing community support and ensuring that students are better informed about their post-secondary education choices.
