The School District has subscribed to a notification service that will improve communication with parents. The service is slated to begin this winter. School Messenger will allow for mass phone messages, emails, or text messages to be sent to those who sign up. It will allow the district to notify everyone in case of a snow day, early dismissals, or other emergencies. It will allow us as a school to reach more parents with reminders about meetings and school activities. We hope to further reduce the amount of paper and printing we currently do, while keeping you up to date on school activities. Watch for more information to be sent home soon about this service.

Sixth grade leadership workshop

Thirty 6th graders met with Ms. Fahey in a workshop to develop leadership skills recently. The purpose of this group is to encourage students to use their voices and actions to combat bullying and other behavior issues in our younger grades. At the workshop they practiced reading picture books which can be used in primary classrooms. The books all deal with behavior issues common among younger children. Students also wrote their own social stories and discussed options in dealing with difficult decisions. Finally, they practiced skills necessary for helping to mediate conflict. Sixth graders will be used in special situations to help talk with children in the lower grades when their leadership/role model skills can be used to make a difference. They will also be able to go into primary classrooms to read aloud and talk about good behavior choices.

Wanted: Parents

Have you ever wondered if other parents worry about some of the same things you do? If you answered yes, come join us at our Parent Support Group meetings. It’s a chance to talk with other parents, share ideas, and realize you are not alone.

This year we are going to have two meetings a month. One meeting will be the second Wednesday of the month from 9 - 10:30 a.m. The other meeting will be the first Tuesday of the month after school from 4:30 - 6 p.m. We have refreshments and the topics are chosen by the parents who attend. You are welcome to come to either or both meetings. The next meetings are Tuesday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 8. If you have any questions or would like to be on a reminder call list, please call Mary Newcomb, Guidance Counselor. Hope to see you soon!

Science Exploration

Sixth grade teacher, Tom Light gets good use out of our science lab. Sixth graders recently dissected squid as part of their ocean unit. They later fried it up and had a tasting party for lunch!

Mr. Light put together a salt water fish tank in the lab. Some of his students enjoyed a trip to the ocean in August to collect samples of sea life for the tank.
