More in Schools
Guy E. Rowe School
FUN — On October 26 all of the students in SAD #17 from preK-12 marched from the middle school to the OHCHS in support of our desire to have all our students Aspire Higher. Mrs. Eastman and Ms Brett enjoy the day with many of their fifth grade students.
This has been a very busy month at Rowe. Grades 3-6 have completed NECAP testing – the kids worked really hard. And then we are in t he middle of the Aspire Higher activities for the district. Pictured above are the sheets outside the office showing where our staff have been and what jobs they have held. If you haven’t seen it, stop in and look. It is great.
Aspirations Month has been a busy one for many reasons and there is one more event taking place here at Rowe on November 2nd from 5PM to 6PM. We are having speakers for parents - Maureen Howard (OHCEE), Nancy McLean-Morrissette (guidance director OHCHS), and Norah Maki (Aspirations lab at OHCHS) will speak with parents about how our school system supports students furthering their education.
Grades K and 1 – Mrs. Plummer, Ms Pierce, and Mrs. Fleming will be doing an art and writing activity focusing on careers with the students.
Grades 2 and 3 – Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Moxcey, and Ms Kiely will be doing an engineering activity and other activities with the students.
Grades 4 - 6 – Mr. Sincerbeaux will be doing an activity in the gym with these students regarding what background and training you need for specific careers.
All students and parents attending the evening will be given scholarship papers to hand in for chances at student and parent scholarships
Our PTO is doing refreshments to have at the end of the evening
Here is the schedule:
5:00 - welcome
5:10 - Children to activities / Parents in cafeteria
5:40 - children return for refreshments in cafeteria and to meet parents
6:00 - done.
Following the presentation at Rowe, join us for a fun and informative discussion on Wednesday, November 2, in OHCHS Culinary Arts dining room from 6 to 7 p.m. We will provide refreshments and child care. In addition, you will be entered in an additional drawing to win scholarships from CMCC and the University of Maine System.
Bob Stuart will be leading the discussion. Bob is an independent college advisor and the director of the nonprofit, Maine College Circle, www.mainecollegecircle.org . He has talked with over 60,000 students in Maine, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont about the opportunity of higher education. At least 40,000 of these students have been elementary school students in communities throughout Maine. Maine College Circle is committed to supporting better, equal, and earlier access to information about the opportunity of higher education to students and their parents.
Maine College Circle believes that it is essential to provide young students and their parents with the information and advice they need to begin to build their aspirations for education before they reach middle school. It is essential that we excite students about their learning and the opportunities that this learning can create.
We are looking forward to meeting you. If you have any questions, please call Maureen Howard at 743-8914 x 5209.
On Thursday, November 3, from 5-7 p.m., our great PTO is sponsoring a community spaghetti and meatball dinner to help raise funds for school field trips. As many of you know, due to budget reductions our district has not funded field trips for several years and we have relied on the PTO.
The sole purpose of this dinner is to raise funds for those field trips. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children (those age 10 and under are free). You may also preorder your meal and take it home to eat! Meals feed a family of four and cost $25. Contact Dawn Kimball at firstname.lastname@example.org to order meals to go. We hope to see you there!
