OXFORD — Boxberry students Sophie List and Simon Whitaker are displaying their artwork this month as a part of the Maine Student Art Show at the Portland Museum of Art. Their artwork was chosen by their teachers, Samantha Armstrong and Jessica Person, from a body of work created by all Boxberry students. Both of these themes are related to their last learning expedition, or thematic unit, on water and specifically ocean life. Sophie's artwork "Sea Creatures" was created with oil pastels and watercolor resist. Simon's artwork "The Battle" was created with acrylic paint and glued-on yarn.

Boxberry students study and engage in many artistic problem-solving adventures. Through "Responsive Classroom" techniques, Boxberry students respond to a morning message everyday, solving a given problem either by drawing, writing, using math skills, research or most usually a combination of many of these. Boxberry students have many opportunities to showcase their artwork, such as at family potlucks or local art shows. During the month of April, Boxberry students will display their "Jazz" painting collages at Café Nomad in Norway.
