Pack 130 plans Pinewood Derby open competition
SOUTH PARIS — The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that boys make with help from their families and then race in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a regulation track.
As a fundraiser for a new Pinewood Derby track to replace their old and ailing one, Pack 130 will be holding a Pinewood Derby Open Competition for individuals and local businesses. There will be first, second and third place trophies and a year's worth of bragging rights to the top three finishers in each division (adults and juniors) as well as a trophy for the "Best of Show." The entry fee also includes a certificate of participation. Businesses will receive a kit to build their car, and will also be acknowledged as a sponsor on a placard displayed at the event. It should be a lot of fun to share with friends and colleagues. Attendance is limited so register early.
They will also be running an "Antique Auto" exhibition race for those interested (no charge), so dust off that old Pinewood Derby Car and bring it along and join in the fun.
This event takes place on Friday, March 25 at the Paris fire station. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the race starts at 6:30 p.m.
Entry fees, before March 18, are $10 individual and $30 business (price includes car kit). After March 18, fees will be $15 individual and $35 business (price includes car kit).
To register or obtain more information and a copy of the rules, please contact Jason Cyr at 890-2491 or Jeff Burnham at 743-0896.
