Begin 2011 with Adult Education

MECHANIC FALLS — Mechanic Falls/Minot/Poland Adult Education’s winter/spring program has several course offerings to help you meet your New Year’s goals. The Learning Center is accepting new day and evening students (at least 17 years old) for skill upgrading, high school diplomas and GED testing. Also offered are health and fitness classes for those who feel they need to re-focus following the holidays. January general interest classes include:

Belly Dance - Used for exercise, this class is fun but challenging and celebrates life at all stages. A wonderful form of self-expression that can be used in daily life. Come and get your shimmy on. No experience necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing; a hip scarf of some sort is also helpful. Tuesdays, 6:30-8 p.m. Registration: $25 per six-week session beginning January 11.

Couponing - More than just cutting coupons to save money. Learn tricks to get $2 - $4 items for less than a dollar – or better yet, for free. Wednesday, January 26, 6-7:30 p.m. Registration: $5.

Fitness for Life with Deb Conway - Step aerobics and resistance exercises for tone and strength. Six-week ongoing sessions starting Thursday, January 13 through mid-June. 6:30-8 p.m. First class, sign up at 6 p.m. Registration: $25 per session.

Heartsaver CPR/AED - Receive training for Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Heartsaver AED card will be given upon successful completion and skills testing. This course is physically demanding. Wear comfortable clothing. Wednesdays, January 19 or February 16, 6 – 10 p.m. Registration: $50 due seven days in advance.

Knitters Night Out - For the person who knows a little about knitting and would like to go further or for the experienced knitter who would like to join other enthusiasts for a night out. Learn how to knit, purl, make cables, add color or just get help to complete a project. Weekly Thursday sessions beginning January 6, 6-8 p.m. Registration: $5 per four-week session.

Quickbooks - Designed for computer literate beginners. Topics include: initial set-up, forms and accounts, sales and invoices, payments, deposits, entering and paying bills, analyzing data and paying sales tax. Saturday, January 22, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Registration: $50 at least four days in advance.
