Patriots Pen awards ceremony held

SOUTH PARIS — The awards ceremony for Patriots Pen was held on December 1, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.

Hal Small, principal of Oxford Hills Middle School, as well as the recipients’ teacher Pam Merz and outstanding teacher Carlene Treadwell attended the awards ceremony.

The theme for 2010-2011 was “Does Patriotism Still Matter?” The three winners of the awards were as follows: third place, Hannah J. Mathieu; second place, Paul Anthony Miller and first place, Paige Elizabeth Garcia. All recipients are in eighth grade. Paige Garcia, first place winner, was advised by Commander Richard Nuesslein that someone in the VFW would be with her as she participated in the district contest. There is a possibility that she might win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
