A Word a Day

Monday

abhorrence – the act of detesting extremely (My abhorrence of brussel sprouts is why I don't eat them.)

Tuesday

retrograde – to cause to deteriorate or to move backward (In the solar system, retrograde bodies are those that rotate or orbit in a clockwise direction – east to west– when viewed from a vantage point above the Earth's north pole.)

Wednesday

cower – recoil in fear; shrink away from (He cowered in front of the monster.)

Thursday

abstain – desist; go without; withdraw (I abstain from eating sugary foods.)

Friday

plethora – an excess (A plethora of books have been written on the subject.)
