Eco Kids program set at Norway library

NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library is running an Eco Kids program to celebrate Earth Day. Earth Day first began on April 22, 1970.

Since its inception it has been celebrated for more than 40 years. This year the Norway Memorial Library Children’s Room will be celebrating Earth Day a little early.

Children in third-sixth grade are invited to join in on Thursday, March 10 and Thursday, March 24 from 3:15-4:30 p.m. Participants will learn about green initiatives in the community, recycling, gardening, and much more. Sign your kids up today to attend this fun and informational program.

On March 10, representatives from the Alan Day Community Garden in Norway will help run the program, explaining to kids how the garden operates and what they are doing to help improve the Earth.

The Alan Day Community Garden began in 2009 and has continued to develop. Kids will have the opportunity to explore the benefits of plants and gardens. Each child will learn how to start their own seeds so that they will have something to plant come spring.

On March 24, the Eco Kids will explore recycling and trash to find out what happens to all the waste produced as a society. During the program composting, recycling, and repurposing of materials will be explored and discussed.

Children will also have the opportunity to discuss small changes that an individual can do to make a difference in the world. In celebration of Earth Day the participants will turn recycled materials into works of art.

Space is limited for this program and only the first 14 children will be able to participate. To register for the Eco Kids program or for more information please call the library at 743-5309 ext. 4.
