Mrs. Harriet Ellen Valentine Schulze

GRASONVILLE, MD - Harriet Ellen Valentine Schulze of Grasonville, MD passed away November 29, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was 93.

She was born March 29, 1917 in Croton, NY to the late Clarence Valentine and Iola Lockwood-Valentine. She spent many of her summers as a child growing up in Maine. She graduated from Hurdrick Hudson High School and Gaines Business School. She worked as a legal secretary during WWII. She would meet her husband, Van Schulze, at a local station in Croton, NY, where he offered to pump her gas for her. They later were married on Palm Sunday, 1942 while he was on furlough.

Mrs. Schulze traveled with her husband extensively overseas while he was in the civil service setting up air traffic control systems in overseas airports, so U.S. flights could safely travel into these international airports. They purchased a home on Norway Lake where many hours were spent playing cards, enjoying family and great friends. After Mr. Schulze passed away in 1981, Mrs. Schulze enjoyed her “sisters” time, with Edith. They spent time in Maine, and enjoyed spending winters in Lakeland, FL, most recently in Nokomis on “Casey Key.” She was a very kind hearted, caring person; anyone that knew her, loved her. She will be missed so much by many.

Mrs. Schulze is survived by her daughter, Valentine “Vali” Galasso, and her husband Mark of Grasonville, MD; a sister, Edith Yoe of New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Christopher L. Galasso, and his wife Heather of Waterford and Cory Galasso of Grasonville, MD and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Herbert Valentine from Florida.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 2, at 5 p.m. at Kent Island United Methodist Church, 2739 Cox’s Neck Road, Chester, MD 21619. Friends and family will be welcome beginning at 4 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Van at the family cemetery in Maine. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kent Island United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 308, Chester, MD 21619. On-line condolences can be made at www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
