AUBURN – Richard E. Brown, Jr., (“Downtown Dickie Brown”), 66, of Oxford, passed away peacefully December 17, 2010, at Hospice House in Auburn after a corageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born July 13, 1944 in Arthurdale, West Virginia, the son of Richard E. Brown and Charlotte Pritchard.. He was raised in Portland, graduating from Portland High School in 1962. He was always aactive in sports, particularly football.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served active duty in the Vietnam War. He received many honors and was very proud of his service to his country.

He worked as a construction supervisor, carpenter, cabinet and furniture maker for Arrow Realty, Keiley Construction, Portland Safe and independently.

Dick was also a member of the American Legion in Oxford and Gray, VFW in Auburn and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in New Gloucester.

He loved life, music and dancing. He was an exceptional and unique craftsman.

He was predeceased by his father; his step-father Donald Pritchard; and a sister Debbie Puitras.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Huntley-Brown of Oxford; his mother, of Portland; two sons, Steven of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Christopher of Winchester, Virginia; a daughter Marceline Olsen of Gorham; two grandsons, Mike and Joe; a granddaughter Kalista; and a great-granddaughter Makenzie; four brothers, Robert (Shirley) Brown of Standish; Larry (Joanne) Pritchard of Gorham; James (Doreen) Pritchard of Scarborough; and Donal (Cheryl) Pritchard of Windham; a sister, Gloria (Norman) Sylvester of Yarmouth; sveral nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

He will be greatly missed by his cairn terrier and companion, Buffy.

Dick requested no services. Friends and family will gather at a future date to celebrate his life. Donations may be made to Androscoggin Home care and Hospice, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn, 04210. Androscoggin cared for him with kindness and dignity throughout his illness.
