Louise "Pat" Tholen

PORTLAND - Louise ‘Pat’ Tholen, 95, formerly of Falmouth, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at The Cedars in Portland after a long illness. Born in Arcadia, NE, November 1, 1915, she was the daughter of Merwin Swaynie and Mona (Lacy) Swaynie.

She married Henry S. Tholen, a graduate of Notre Dame, in Quincy, IL in 1938. They lived in the Chicago area for a number of years, then moved to Lancaster, PA, where Mr. Tholen was vice president of Hamilton Watch Company. In 1977, they moved from New Haven, CT, to South Paris, where Mrs. Tholen served as general contractor during the construction of their new home with a view of the White Mountains. They then moved to Falmouth, where they were members of St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church for many years.

Mrs. Tholen leaves two daughters, Ann Tholen of Rio Rancho, NM and Jane Tholen of Falmouth; two granddaughters, Margaret Stauffer of New York City and Catherine Stauffer of Portland, OR and three nieces, Karen Chapman of Oxford, Carla Phillips of West Paris and Margie Mayne of Gypsum, CO. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry S. Tholen in 1999 and her sister, Ann S. Beyer.

Services will be private; a memorial service is planned for a future date.
