Phyllis W. Stevens
BETHEL - Phyllis W. Stevens, 94, of Bethel died Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris. She was born in Bethel on October 1, 1916, the daughter of Harry A. and Esther L. Frost Williamson. She started school at Sunday River, in a one-room schoolhouse. She and her family moved to Upton in 1929 where she completed her education. She worked at sporting camps at Middle Dam, then during World War II she worked as a shipfitter at Portland shipyard on the Liberty ships. After the war she worked at the shoe shop in Norway and retired from Cornwall's.
She married Archie Stevens of Bethel at the age of 39. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, knitting and crocheting.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by her sister, Doris Fraser; her sister-in-law, Virginia Williamson; nieces and nephews, Diane Williamson, Orlando Fraser, Richard and Nancy Fraser, Bruce and Hollee Fraser and family, Sue and Eric Liimatta, Scott Fraser and Koral Kimball, Michelle Bouchard, Mary and Tim Gray and Edleen and John Winslow and neighbors, Joan and Dean Labbie and family and Janelle Mixer and family. She was predeceased by her husband; a sister, Ruth and two brothers, Kenneth Williamson and Richard “Buster” Williamson.
At Mrs. Stevens' request there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenleaf Funeral Home, 37 Vernon St., Bethel. On-line condolences may be shared with her family at www.andrewsgreenleaf.com.
