Kenneth Dembski

PORTLAND - Kenneth Dembski (nicknamed “KD”), 75, of Portland, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October, 26, 2010 at Androscoggin Home Care Hospice House in Auburn, with his loving family by his side.

He was a fourth of July baby born in 1935 in Long Island, NY, son of Walter and Florence (Wilkinowski) Dembski. He graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY with a degree in Art History. He became controller and assistant buyer of men’s accessories at Sills, a high-end fashion men’s clothing store in New York City for several years and then was  employed as the men’s manager at JM Towne in New Jersey and manager and assistant buyer at RH Macys. The clothing business and fashion remained a passion for him all of his life.

After spending many years in Oxford Hills, Mr. Dembski spent the last several years of his life living in Portland.

His family was the most important thing in his life, including welcoming his precious grandson, Talin Michael Thorpe, into this world this past May. He loved to tell him stories, sing him songs and see him smile. He also enjoyed listening to jazz music, writing narrative stories, taking walks in the Old Port, shopping for clothes, watching the Yankees (and Trenton Thunder when they played the Seadogs), watching college basketball and Woody Allen films and using his sense of humor to make others laugh.

Mr. Dembski will always be remembered and loved by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lauren Dembski and Keith Thorpe of Norway and Jeannine and Adam Ouellette of New Hampshire; his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Julie Dembski, of Waterloo, Canada and his nephew, Chad Dembski of Montreal, Canada.

A service to celebrate Mr. Dembski’s life was held on Monday, November 1, at Seventy Five State Street in Portland in the Adams Center. Friends and family were invited to share memories. Condolences and donations can be sent to Lauren Dembski, 27 High Ridge Road, Norway, ME 04268.
