SOUTH PARIS — Norman B. Hodgdon, formerly of Porter and Falmouth, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Maine Veteran's Home in South Paris, surrounded by his loving children. He was born in Somerville, MA on May 20, 1919, to Alonzo and Alta (Coffin) Hodgdon. He graduated from Deering High School in 1938.

During WWII he served three years as an army medic in the South Pacific. Following the war he was employed at Burgess Forbes Paint. For most of his working life he was a mechanic and operated Gulf stations in Falmouth and Yarmouth, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Falmouth and later Riverside United Methodist Church in Porter, singing in their choirs. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Presumpscot Lodge since 1948 and was a Past Noble Grand.

He was an enthusiastic member of SPEBSQSA for over 50 years, singing tenor in the Downeasters chorus and quartets; The Port City Four won the New England novice quartet award in 1975. 

Mr. Hodgdon is survived by his six children, Susan E. Higgins of South Portland, Juliane and James Chard of Brunswick, Peter Hodgdon and Dundee Pratt of Norway, Daniel and Wendy Hodgdon of Porter, Laurel DeRitter of Wiscasset and Alicia Ruth Hodgdon of Whittier, CA; 10 grandchildren, Steven Higgins, Mark and Tristan Tanner, Annie and Elise Hodgdon, David, Catherine and Michael Hodgdon, Emilie and Jeffrey DeRitter and his wife Danielle; his brother, Harold Hodgdon of Buxton and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Ruth E. Iverson and by his siblings, Doris Young and Lawrence and Philip Hodgdon.

He will be remembered for his love of harmonizing, whether it was Happy Birthday, Barbershop tunes, or old time favorites - he made beautiful music all of his life.

A period of memorial visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Ln., Yarmouth. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 13, at 3 p.m. at the Emmaus Lutheran Church, 265 Middle Road, Falmouth. Burial will take place at a later date in Oceanview Cemetery, Boothbay.
