Ivan "Buddy" Parlin

NORTH TURNER — Ivan "Buddy" Parlin went home to be with the Lord and his Savior March 30th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lewiston April 22, 1943, the son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Campbell) Parlin. Buddy went to school in South Paris and Monmouth.

He married Geraldine Fouler in 1962. Buddy and Gerry were married for 33 years and had three children, Penny, Rusty and Cindy.

Buddy raced horses for Woolworth's, traveling many places such as Yonkers, New York and the Kentucky Derby in his younger years. He cared for and raced horses for many people. Albert Penley of West Paris was the owner of one of the last horses he cared for and raced.

Thirty three years ago his brother Everett Parlin told him about Novus, and he looked into it and went to school learning how to repair windshields. He was the best. He traveled all over doing his work and he loved it. He was very proud to be a "Novus Man."

He lived in Monmouth, Lewiston and North Turner with his wife Gerry. Gerry went to be with the Lord April 3, 1997. She passed away with ALS, a form of Lou Gherig's disease.

The family were members of the Thomas Memorial Church in Lewiston at the time of Gerry's death. Before his wife Gerry passed away they had bought a steeple for that church, and had it put up. It can be seen from the Longley Bridge between Lewiston and Auburn.

After the death of his first wife Gerry he later married Elaine Shelton. They had been married for 13 years. Elaine brought Buddy home from the hospital; that's where he wanted to be. He was ready to be with the Lord and the loved ones that had passed before him. He was very strong in his faith and two of his very best friends were Pastor George Hardy and Pastor Earl Edgerly.

He is survived by his wife Elain Parlin of North Turner, his son Rusty Parlin and his wife Doreen of Buxton, Penny Litchfield and her husband of Ohio, Cindy Hall of Auburn; grandchildren Danyelle, Nickolas, Eric, Rusty Jr., Ryan Dericia, Faith and Caleb; brother Everett Parlin; sisters Betty Foster of South Paris and Patty Davis of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Buddy and his wife Elaine were members of the North Turner Union Presbyterian Church where he served as one of the Elders of the church.

He was predeceased by his brother Gerald "Gary" Parlin of Oxford, his mother Dorothy Keene of South Paris, first wife Geraldine "Gerry" Parlin, and his youngest brother, Frank Keene of Livermore.

Donations may be made to the North Turner Union Presbyterian Church POB 620, North Turner, ME 04266 in Ivan "Buddy" Parlin's memory.

Services were held Saturday April 2 at the church.
