OXFORD — Harold C. (Ted) Hamilton, 102, passed away on February 17, 2011 at Market Square Health Care Facility in South Paris. He was born June 28, 1908 in Lewiston, to George W. and Lodema (Abbott) Hamilton. He graduated from Jordan High School in Lewiston in 926 and from Baypath Business College in Springfield, MA in 1930 with a degree in Business Administration.
In 1931 he married Lucretia H. Bonney of Oxford; she passed away in 1996 after 65 years of marriage.
Mr. Hamilton worked at A&P stores, Lewiston Bleachery and Dye Works and in 1935 accepted a position with Robinson Manufacturing Co. in Oxford, where he worked for 46 years.
He was a good athlete, playing both baseball and basketball in high school and in college. He played baseball for the Oxford Townies and Old Pine Tree League in the 1930s. From 1942 to 1946 he coached the Oxford High School boys' basketball teams.
He was an accomplished golfer and once played to an 8 handicap issued by the MSGA.
Mr. Hamilton was a Past Patron and Life Member of Lodge #168 in Norway, and a Life Member of IOOF of Norway/Paris. He was also a member and Past Master of Oxford Lodge #18 AF&AM in Norway. He was a member of the first Board of Directors that raised money to start the building of the present Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Family members include his grandchildren, Robert and his wife Jill Hamilton of Easton, PA; Peter and his wife Kimberly Hamilton of Ellicott City, MD; Deborah Hamilton and her husband John Novak of Towson, MD; Marcia Hamilton and her husband John True of Mt. Airy, MD; Michele and her husband Kerry McCoole of Bedford, MA; Lynda and her husband Christopher King of Concord, MA and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucretia and his son, Robert C. Hamilton.
At Mr. Hamilton's request, a private burial service will be held in the spring. Arrangements under the care of Oxford Hills and Weston Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street, Rte. 26 Oxford. On-line condolences may be expressed to the family at www.oxfordhillsfuneralservices.com.
