TURNER — Craig Donald Quimby, 63, a lifelong resident of Turner, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at his home in Turner. He was born March 4, 1948 in Lewiston, the son of Donald and Irene (Bryant) Quimby. He attended school at Leavitt Institute in Turner. He proudly joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, receiving the Silver and Bronze Star Medals, and was a dedicated member of the Turner American Legion Post #111. On September 21, 1968 in North Turner he married his wife of 43 years, Sharon Mahaney.

Sharing many family values with his parents, he became a natural outdoorsman and an avid lifelong sportsman, enjoying many successful deer hunts. His firewood kept many local families warm for more than four decades. “Summer Sundays” were his special treat, touring the coast of Maine at Stover’s Point and the meadows overlooking Cundy’s Harbor with Sharon and Babe in tow. He would proclaim “I just love it here” to family and friends that were somewhere in the background. Upon word of his illness, their large plot of land and circular driveway soon became tangled with traffic because of the overwhelming amount of support from friends and the community surrounding Mr. and Mrs. Quimby, Post #111 included. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Mr. Quimby is survived by his wife, Sharon Quimby of Turner; his son, Frederick Quimby and his wife Edith of Lewiston; 2 granddaughters, Whitney and Cassandra; his three brothers, Lester “Butch” Quimby and his companion, Glenda Clark, Barry Quimby and his wife Pauline, and Eric Quimby and companion Mary Rose, all of North Turner; his sisters, Donna Dagneau of Kissimmee, FL, Ilene Swett and her husband Linwood of North Turner and Vickie Bourick and her husband Toby of Portland; his special mother-in-law, Shirley Mahaney of North Turner; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kathy and James Hanson and their children of Turner; his beloved animals, Babe, Midnight, Goldie and Fluffy and all his very special friends.  He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Janet Hutchins; his nephew, Lester “Boofy” Quimby, Jr. and his father-in-law, Henry Mahaney.

Family and friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Mr. Quimby's life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 18 at Boofy Quimby Hall, 96 Howes Corner Road in Turner. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Turner American Legion Post #111, PO Box 611, Turner, ME 04282. Arrangements by Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.finleyfuneralhome.com.
