NORWAY — Ernest Ralph Frechette passed away peacefully on January 18, 2011, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. He was born on April 27, 1915, in South Paris, the son of RoseAnna Roy and John Frechette. He grew up in Norway and Hartford, and attended schools in Mason, Byron, South Paris and Norway and Berlin, NH. He married Nettie Stetson in 1937 and they remained a devoted couple for over 73 years.

Hard work, dedication, loyalty and honesty were Mr. Frechette's main traits. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1934 where he constructed roads. He spent 15 years at B.E. Cole Shoe Co., where he was a top performing rougher. He served in World War II. But his greatest achievement was operating a successful dairy farm of Holstein cattle for over 20 years with the help of his family.

He enjoyed traveling to many states with his wife in their camper, viewing horse pulling at county fairs, cutting wood, making maple syrup in the spring, and riding on scenic country roads. He also enjoyed family gatherings and playing cards and other games. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church, UCC, of Norway. His family remembers him as a loyal and faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Frechette is survived by his wife, Nettie; a daughter, Joanna Page, of Summerville, SC; three sons, Arnold and his wife Pat of Gorham, Warren and his wife Beth of Mechanic Falls and Gerald of Norway; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Eva Burnet, Yvonne Belanger and Lucy Worcester and three brothers, Lucien, Oliver and Arthur.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Family and friends attended visitation on Friday evening.
