LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen met in two closed door sessions following their regular meeting July 2 to discuss labor contract negotiations and to decide whether to grant two property tax abatements.
Town Manager Kristal Flagg said the three-year contract for Local 340, Teamsters Union employees of the Livermore Falls Police Department and public works department expired on June 30, 2012. Monday’s session, whose details cannot be made public until an agreement is made, was a continuation of ongoing discussions. She said the unions must now meet.
That meeting is expected at the end of July or early August, then selectmen will meet again to discuss the proposals.
Following the second closed session, Flagg said both property abatements were denied by selectmen.
In other matters, selectmen voted unanimously to impose Tree Growth penalties on property owned on the Moose Hill Road by James Peterson, of $1,320, and on property located on Campground Road by Jeffrey Merrill, of $1,620. Both had 10 years to develop a forestry plan to meet the requirements of a Tree Growth tax benefit but had not done so, said Flagg.
A quit claim deed was granted to Sean Byron for town-owned property at 28 Sewall St., and an abatement of $301 for old sewer fees, was granted to Donna Butler for town-foreclosed property at 4 Gordon St. During the reorganizational portion of the board meeting, Chairman William Demaray was elected to another year in the position.
Also, the following re-appointments were made: Susan Metzer, animal control officer; James Butler Jr., code enforcement officer, junkyard, auto graveyard, and recycling business officer, Building Inspector, and nuisance law official; Gerald Pineau, fire chief; Annie O’Shea, health officer; Dawn Young, tax collector and excise tax collector; Susan Sapiel, town clerk and treasurer; Kent Mitchell, licensed plumbing inspector; and Ernest Steward, police chief.
