Joseph W. Brown

NORWAY — Joseph W. Brown, 53, of Norway, left this earth to fish clearer waters in Summerland. An avid outdoorsman since he was very young, he would hike from Auburn to Deer Isle several times a year, hunting or fishing along the way as he traveled to see his dad.

He always enjoyed the outdoors no matter what the season. When he wasn’t after fish or game he would carry a shovel with him and explore old bottle dumps. Throughout the years he passed along his passions for hunting, fishing and antique bottle collecting to his younger siblings.

He enjoyed working in foodservice for many years. He worked as sous chef at No Tomatoes in Auburn and later at the Country Way in South Paris. He always reflected fondly on his training from Ryozo Shimamura.

He had a natural knack for all things mechanical. From bicycles to small engines, he could repair anything effortlessly. He worked on lawnmowers, snowblowers and other small engines at no charge to help older or disabled people in his community who did not have enough income for repairs or new equipment.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, none more than his nephew Dalton Myers of Waterford, whom he thought the world of.

Mr. Brown is survived by his adoring mother, Daveene Myers of Waterford; his partner of 27 years, Muriel McAlister of Norway; his brothers, Kevin Myers and wife BJ of Harrison, James Merchant of Livermore and Charles Brown of Deer Isle; sisters, Shaana Myers of Norway and her fiance Mark Robinson, Pamela “Penni” Bulman of Virginia Beach, VA and Tina Brown of Deer Isle and his faithful dog “Fred.”
