NORTH WATERBORO — Barbara Emily (Johnson) Walshaw, 73, of North Waterboro, died from heart failure at Goodall Hospital in Sanford on December 26, 2010. She was born on July 1, 1937, in Lynn, MA to Charles A. Johnson Jr. and Marion E. (Hebert) Johnson. She attended schools in Lynn and Saugus, MA and went on to become a certified nurse’s aide. She had a long career at the Maine State Mental Hospital, helping many individuals who couldn’t help themselves.

She loved to travel and through the years had visited many National Parks throughout California and visited the Grand Canyon five times. She was an artistic soul and expressed her craftiness through selling her painted ceramics and artwork nationwide. She was also an avid knitter and crocheted dozens of afghans that she gave away to her friends and family. She loved spending time with her family, near and far, and had been known to drive over 300 miles just to have a cup of coffee with a relative.

She lived with her brother David for close to 50 years in Harrison, South Paris and Portland, and for the past 15 years, in North Waterboro.

Mrs. Walshaw is survived by her two brothers, Charles A. Johnson and his wife Virginia of Brooksville, FL and David A. Johnson of North Waterboro. She is also survived by her niece, Lisa C. Young of Sanbornville, NH and three nephews, Christopher A. Johnson and his wife Kim of Merrimac, NH, Steven A. Johnson and his wide Lori of NH and Craig Johnson of Nashua, NH, as well as several cousins, great-nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Marion (Marylyn) Frances (Johnson) Cleary. She will be greatly missed by her brothers, family and friends.

Family and friends called on Monday, January 3 at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak Street in Alfred, followed by a funeral service on Tuesday, January 4. Committal prayers and burial will be in the spring at the Pine Grove Annex Cemetery in North Waterboro.
