Dorothy J. Smith

BRIDGTON — Dorothy J. Vaughan Smith, 83, of Bridgton passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. She was born in Somerville, MA on January 17, 1929, the daughter of Ernest L. and Lillian E. Witham Newton. She married Harry B. Vaughan, who died in 1957. She moved to Bridgton and married Frank Thompson in 1959. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was active in the Cub Scouts, PTA and Rebekahs. She moved to Norway where she worked as a nurse’s aide. In 1994 she married Calvin Smith and resided in Otisfield. After the death of Mr. Smith, she lived with her daughter in Bridgton.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, William Vaughan of Belfast and Michael Vaughan of Georgia; two daughters, Linda Worster of Lincoln and Sally Thompson of Bridgton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant daughter in 1953.
