Melvin Amos Austin
SOUTH PARIS — Melvin Amos Austin, 84, of South Paris passed away at the Maine Veterans Home on Friday, March 11, 2011. He was born in Union Springs, NY on January 31, 1927, to George and Ethel Nickerson Austin. He attended Schools in New York, California and Massachusetts. He married Geraldine Waterhouse on March 17, 1952. He spent time in the Pacific as a Merchant Marine during WWII, and served with the Army in Korea, building bridges. He also spent time as a volunteer on missionary trips to Guatemala and Sweden.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Geraldine Austin; a daughter, Patricia Murray; a son, Gary Austin; a brother, Howard Austin; a sister, Alethea Cochran; a stepsister, Joyce Gallentine; seven grandsons and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by two brothers, two stepbrothers and a stepsister.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 15 at the Woodstock Seventh Day Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ADRA “Adventist Disaster Relief Association” c/o Woodstock SDA Church Treasurer, 109 Koskela Rd., Bryant Pond, ME 04219.
