Evelyn A. Gammon

NORWAY — Evelyn A. Gammon, 87, of Norway passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Norway Rehabilitation & Living Center. She was born in Norway, August 15, 1923 to Frank and Hannah (Field) Gammon. She worked for New England Telephone Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1983.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Norway Grange and United Methodist Church of South Paris. She became a member of the Rebekahs on April 4, 1947; she served as Noble Grand, District Deputy President, Past Rebekah Assembly President and Secretary for many years.

She loved to travel and loved cats. Her last years were spent at Norway Rehabilitation & Living Center where she enjoyed spending time with staff and her special caregivers.

Miss Gammon is survived by cousins and special friends Shirley and Jim Boyce of Norway, Veronica and Shane Poland and their children Sullivan, Molly and Sawyer of West Paris and Meredith and Jason Humphrey and their daughter Olivia of Statesville, NC. She is predeceased by her brother Stanley, who passed away two years ago.

Family and friends attended a visitation and funeral service on Tuesday, January 11 at Oxford Hills and Weston Funeral Services, 1037 Main St. Rte. 26, Oxford.
