Cash Mob to hit Paris
OXFORD HILLS — August 25, save the date. A second Cash Mob is planned, this time in Paris.
According to Tim Dillmuth, marketing specialist at WJ Wheeler, "there was so much excitement in the community about our first cash mob that another Cash Mob is scheduled to support an Oxford Hills business on Saturday, August 25, at 10 a.m."
This time everyone is asked to meet at W.J. Wheeler Insurance, 15 Market Square in South Paris. Parking is available at the Community Concepts lot, Town of Paris Municipal Parking Lot and on-street parking is available as well.
Last month’s Cash Mob saw 135 people mob Books N Things on Main Street, Norway. No one knew where they were going ahead of time, but when the business was announced, people cheered and waved their $20 bills in excitement.
The crowd of people ended up spending $2,800 at Books N Things and then enjoyed an evening of food and giveaways at Ari’s Pizza & Subs.
A Cash Mob is a community-oriented event designed to support one local business while giving people the opportunity to mingle with others from the local area. Everyone agrees to bring $20 with them to spend at this local business.
“The formula is pretty simple,” said Dillmuth, “people commit to spend $20 each at a local business to help it financially, it brings in new customers and gets old customers re-acquainted.”
Kim Davis, marketing coordinator at Oxford Federal Credit Union said, “In a time where many small local businesses are struggling, events like a Cash Mob help people realize they don’t have to go to big box stores or the Internet for things that want, they probably can get what they need or want right in their own community.”
On August 25, the crowd that gathers will mob a Paris business. The actual business will remain a secret though, until it is announced that morning.
The Oxford Federal Credit Union will again sponsor free refreshments. There will also be giveaways such as area gift certificates and goodies from local businesses.
