WEST SUMNER — I have been talking to people on the phone. They are staying in and keeping warm. Monday, Martin Luther King Day, I was invited out to lunch by my son-in-law Dan Mathieu and my daughter Karen from Jay. There were celebrating a milestone in their lives.
They paid off their house mortgage. Congratulations to them. There were 14 that went: Dan's parents, Jerry and Simone Mathieu and his brother Ken, all from Lewiston; my two granddaughters, Ginny and husband Dean and Missy and husband Chris and their two daughters, Natalie and Emma and his parents from Farmington.
We went to the Great Wall Chinese Buffet in Augusta, by way of Belgrade Lakes. It was a pretty ride. I don't think I ever was on that road before. The food was great and so was the fellowship. It was a very enjoyable day.
Michael Stevens had a sliding party on Sumner Hill on January 26. After sliding they went in for a potluck supper. That sounds like such fun. I remember sliding when i was a kid.
At the four corners in East Buckfield, there were hills in every direction. We had toboggans and double runners to slide on. There would be a full moon and we were never cold.
Lorraine Litchfield is in the Mass General Hospital in Boston in the intensive care unit. She had been through a lot and is doing better.
Scott and Thelma Kendall went to the meeting on reclaiming Abbott Pond on January 23. The meeting was held at the town office. There were two biologists there from the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department.
The biologists would like to use Rotenone to clean out the pond. I talked to Susan Bunes about the meeting. I got quite an education on ponds. I didn't know that the water in ponds rotates or turns over. Some people want only trout in the ponds.
Some are for the Rotenone and some are not. After the Rotenone is used then the next spring the ponds can be stocked with good healthy trout. This has been a lengthy article for me.
