Bryant Pond

BRYANT POND — Sunday services at the Baptist Church are Sunday School at 9:15 a.m., Morning Worship at 10:30 a.m. and Evening Service at 6 p.m. Prayer meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. On Sunday, October 28, Missionary Larry Strout will be at the evening service. This will be followed by a pie social.

Judith Grover Tent 11, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, met on Monday, October 8, at the Grange Hall. Six members were present. President Vicky Myers read that on this date during the Civil War Brigadier General William T. Sherman was named to command the Union Department of the Cumberland headquarters at Louisville, KY.

He replaced Brigadier General Robert Anderson who had been the commander at Fort Sumter, SC. Elsie Bonney, who is working on names for the new monument, reported she is now working on wars from 1900 up to now. Vicky Myers reported on the meeting they attended at Stoneham which was very interesting.

Elsie also reported she and Sally Sawyer gave the program last month on the Daughters of Union Veterans history. Elsie and Sally attended a meeting in Greenville, with Tent 23. Elsie also attended with her husband Larry the reception for National Commander of the Sons of UVCW in Boston.

Elsie joined the Sons Auxiliary while there. There were 16 calls made. The mystery package went to Helvi Cary. The next meeting is November 12, at the home of Alice Hoyt.

On October 21, at the Legion Hall in Locke Mills, the Greenwood football team will hold a fundraiser spaghetti supper. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drinks. The cost will be $7 for 12 and over and $5 for 11 and under. This meal will be served by the older football players. There will also be a 50/50 and a Chinese auction.
