WEST SUMNER — The West Sumner Baptist Church will be having a special speaker, Pastor Wes Tomlinson, on August 23 to 26. He will be telling us about his prison ministry.
The descendants of Levi and Adrianne Newton met on August 5, at Larry and Kendra Newton's home here in Sumner, with 55 people attending. Walter Warren and Millie Newton were the oldest members present.
The youngest was Josiah Madore, two years old. Dick and Barbara Newton came all the way from Florida. A potluck lunch was enjoyed at noon. An auction was held with auctioneer Mike Newton. The game of guessing a gallon jug of candy was won by Dwight Harris.
There were 262 pieces and he guessed 260. After the auction ice cream was served and then the games started with croquet, badminton and bean bag horseshoes. It had started getting hot by 3 p.m. so we stayed in the garage or people left. It is always a fun time at this reunion.
When we were growing up I was anxious to play with Marlene Yeaton. Now we still play croquet.
Ruth Hadley, my daughter-in-law, and I went to Ticonderoga, NY, last week. Kendall was working in New Hampshire. We went to visit Ruth's cousin and her mother. It was a beautiful sight when we got to the new bridge that connects Vermont to New York.
There was Lake Champlain in all its splendor. We saw a camel in the field and lots of donkeys. We wondered why anyone would raise donkeys. We had some delicious meals and some good shopping experiences.
And we were thankful to get home safe and sound.
