West Sumner

WEST SUMNER — Greetings from quiet West Sumner. Not too much going on right now. I just had a treat from the J & J Variety, owned by Carrado Bucherri. The manager, Luke Hood, offered me a sample of his fish chowder, and it was delicious.

Now I can't wait to grab Brenda and go for a big meal. There are a lot of Italian meals on the menu. Carrado is a native of Italy. He came to the U.S. and settled in Massachusetts and operated a body shop there. He has a commercial fishing boat and will be serving fish specialties. He met Luke in a restaurant in Rhode Island.

We had the Warren reunion at Hebron Pines just two weeks ago with over 200 people attending. We are numbering over 400 now. The quilt made by Regina Hutchinson went for over $300. The quilt was made out of maroon, navy blue and tan fabric with scrappy stars, Regina's own pattern.

The braided rug made by Esther Robinson went for $300. My strawberry and rhubarb pie went for $22. People came from quite a few of the New England states.

Kendall made a quick trip to the hospital a week ago. He had a very bad headache. He received the help he needed and didn't have a seizure. He was back home and back to work in three days.

Maude-Alice Hadley died Monday, July 23. Her funeral service was held on July 26, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church with an overflowing crowd. She was my sister-in-law, but we left off the in-law part. She was my 11th sister, and I miss her terribly.

The West Sumner Baptist Church will be having special meetings from August 23 to 25, with Pastor Tomlinson from Tennessee. He is involved with a prison ministry.
