NORTH NORWAY — According to the Farmer’s Almanac, one more snowstorm to go, over Easter. No new Easter bonnet for me. I can remember how proud I was to be all dressed up with a new outfit, shoes, bonnet and even a handbag one Easter back a hundred years ago when I was a kid.
It’s been a long time since I even thought about new clothes for Easter and who wears a hat anymore. If they want to revive the economy they should make it stylish to wear a hat again.
I have a little number tucked away somewhere. But one needed a hat for every occasion. The one I wore to my cousin David’s wedding was my favorite and I wouldn’t mind peering out from under the brim of that one again.
Dell is off in the wild blue yonder, doing his exercise therapy and shopping for groceries for us and the birds. Actually he just returned much to the cat’s relief. She is talking to him and trying to relay the message that she is starving to death, despite her earlier than usual breakfast.
I see that he left the vehicle outside instead of garaging it so he must be planning to wash the grime off. I accidentally rubbed against it and had to wash my coat in places where it too was covered in salt.
We attended the spring Senior Expo at St. Max’s in Scarborough on Wednesday. Pat and Charlie went with us. We visited the booths. And Cole Tamminen and his wife Debbie McLean were both working there so we had a nice chat with them.
Came home with lots of information to browse through. We were offered the chance to give our oral histories, making a recording with Past Times Productions, but of course couldn’t think of a thing to say off the cuff like that. Later I thought of a lot of stories.
Maine Senior Guide is a new website that gathers all the products, services and information important to Maine’s seniors in one easy access resource. You can find it on www.MaineSeniorGuide.com and I urge you to browse that site.
We didn’t stay for all the speakers but left to find lunch at Dave’s Famous Barbeque. The food was good and the noise level was high.
Thursday Paula picked me up after getting Mary and Pat and we all went to Fishbones in Lewiston to have lunch in honor of Pat’s birthday last Saturday. The food was delicious and the presentation so nice you just had to eat it all.
Rather than stop at Gifford’s we had dessert there also. Yummy. Never had strawberry ice cream with Balsamic vinegar before. Must remember to use balsamic more often. Deven, Judy, Six, Kara and friend brought the makings for brownie ice cream sundaes Saturday night to celebrate Pat’s birthday at her house.
Sunday Paula made a lemon cake for Pat’s birthday which we devoured with coffee, tea or whatever. Dell made tapioca pudding and we had other goodies as well.
Our monthly AARP meeting was on the 11th and after a nice meal we had a talk and slides regarding the Farmer’s Markets by Pat Verrill, daughter-in-law of my sister, Pat Verrill. Talk about confusing.
Anyway, Pat the younger (I am going to hear about this) gave a very informative talk and I am sure we all have more appreciation regarding what it takes to bring that nice fresh produce to market. I was quite thrilled to win one of the door prizes. Now if I could only win the lottery all would be hunky dory.
I have been hearing threats against the poor groundhog. He didn’t ask to be dragged out into the limelight. Or sunlight as the case may be. So give him the benefit and let him sleep through the next weeks. Just saw the weather report that stated we would have above normal temps in the Northeast in April, May and June.
Even out in Tucson, AZ where Jane Perham is wintering there have been days when she couldn’t put the top down on her car because it was too cold. Too cold out there is a far cry from our cold however. Soon all the snowbirds will be flying home. Think I saw one the other day. He was wearing shorts and flip-flops.
For this week, commit random acts of kindness. You’ll feel better.
