Sirois announces candidacy
TURNER — Lawrence “Larry” Sirois is formally announcing his candidacy for the Maine State House of Representatives District 96.
“I'm frustrated by what I see going on in Augusta. For too long the concerns and interests of the hard working people of Tuner, Minot and Hebron have been ignored and I'm ready to do something about it. I am committed to bringing responsive, common-sense representation to Augusta that is in the best interest of our communities - not special interests and not partisan ideology," says Sirois.
Larry has been a long time teacher, coach, and basketball official and served two terms in the Maine Legislature. He has taught math in both Auburn and Turner, teaching both high school students and adults for over 40 years. He is known for knocking on every door in the district to keep in touch with his constituents.
“You can't represent the people if you don't know them and you don't listen to them, that's why I will always return the calls of my constituents and continue to visit every home each year to listen to your concerns and needs.”
As a teacher and as a coach, Sirois has seen first hand how the down economy has impacted working class families in this area. “Too many middle class families are having trouble making ends meet. They are worried that they won't have money to heat their homes or pay their mortgage. That's not right. It's time to change the direction of this state by putting middle class families first, that starts with making sure we have a well educated work force that will attract business to Maine, along with lower health insurance costs, and lower energy costs. We need to protect and strengthen our public education, technical schools, community colleges, and the University of Maine system to provide both our young people and adults a means to better themselves. We also need to protect our voting rights, workers’ rights, and women's rights which are all under attack in recent years.”
Larry and his wife Nancy have lived in Turner for the past 42 years. They raised their three sons, Wesley, Jonathan and Christopher in this community. Larry has been a Deacon and Trustee of Turner Village Church. They have six grandchildren.
Larry would like to again represent, visit and provide good service to the people of Hebron, Minot, and Turner and is always delighted to hear from residents. He can be reached at 225-3316 or lansir@megalink.net.
