10th Annual Alcoholism and Addictions Conference coming December 3

SOUTH PARIS - In the state of Maine, addiction-related issues cost the state more than a million dollars every year, with most of these being related to health. However, these are only the monetary costs –  when a loved one is ill the human cost is much greater. In order to bring awareness and healing to the disease of addiction, the Oxford County Substance Abuse Task Force, Healthy Oxford Hills and Stephens Memorial Hospital are partnering to host the 10th annual Alcoholism and Addictions conference on Friday, December 3 at the South Paris Congregational Church.

The Oxford Hills community is privileged to have Dr. Mark Publicker, a lively wealth of knowledge; William Stockwell, chair of the Conference Committee and dedicated supporter of prevention work, numerous individuals from the recovery community who are courageously willing to share their stories; support from the Office of Substance Abuse and a wide variety of community partners.

One of the most powerful aspects of this conference is seeing the community come together to share their experiences, concerns and knowledge for a common goal. Anyone with any interest in addiction prevention and/or recovery is strongly encourage to attend. The lunch alone is worth the price of admission, prepared by volunteers at the First Congregational Church. Scholarships are available by request, and are easily obtained.
