New plate prepared for Gingerbread House

NORWAY – The Gingerbread House on Main Street, Norway, will soon be moved to its new home, just a few lots away.

Pat Shearman, of the Gingerbread Task Force, says that the long-awaited moment of the building's transition is almost at hand.

“The Task Force group is actively planning the celebration, so it best be soon,” said Shearman. “Otherwise, the brownies will go stale.”

Shearman says that, once the excavation work is completed, the house will be moved.

The structure will be transported to a temporary position on the new site, where it will rest on steel girders.

Then the foundation will be poured, and, once it dries, the house will be set on the foundation, after which the steel will be removed.

Then, said Shearman, the holes from the steel girders will be filled in, "and it will be there, looking great, grand, and glorious."

The work is expected to be completed this season.

After the move, the group plans to begin a round of cosmetic work that will restore the house, which was originally built in 1851.
