Seizure results in car crash

OXFORD — A Blue Ford Explorer driven by James Salvatore of Oxford careened off of Route 26 on Monday and crashed into the side of a garage attached to Pa's Trading Company.

According to Lieutenant Mike Ward of the Oxford Police Department, witnesses driving behind Salvatore saw his vehicle swerve and cut across the oncoming, south-bound lane, through a parking lot, and into the garage.

One of the witnesses pulled over and went to check on Salvatore, whom he found having a seizure. Ward said that the witness turned off the car and called 911.

Paul Cote, who owns Pa's and lives in the building, said that he was slightly concerned about the stability of the building, on which he had recently added a deck and installed new roofing. A carpenter was on-scene to make sure that the building remained stable shortly after the crash.

Cote's own car was in the garage at the time of the accident and sustained scratches to the driver side door as a result of the wall caving in. According to Cote, accessing the vehicle to move it out of the garage required the removal of sheet rock that had fallen as a result of the crash.

Ward reported that the seizure appeared to be the cause of the accident, but that the cause of the seizure was still unclear.

Salvatore was transported via ambulance to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. His vehicle sustained minimal damage.
