Haynes appointed Waterford CEO
WATERFORD – Bill Haynes is the new town code enforcement officer.
“We awarded the position to Bill on Monday [November 8],” said Randy Lessard, chairman of the board of selectmen. “He was one of 10 people who applied for the position.”
Haynes is a native of Waterford, and selectmen chose him because he has a long history working in other town positions.
“He is our health officer, and one of our assistant fire chiefs, cemetery sextant, and he is also our E.M.S. [Emergency Medical Services] officer,” Lessard said.
Haynes did not have as much experience in the building trades as some of the other applicants. But he is very familiar with the town's ordinances, added Lessard.
“The code enforcement officer needs to enforce our ordinances and our building codes,’” he continued. “Bill has been involved with the town for so long that he knows Waterford’s ordinances. That was the strength that he had – he also runs a small custom sawmill and cuts dimensional lumber, and he has experience and a pleasant mannerism working with people.”
Lessard said that Haynes had many advocates because of the level of commitment to the town he had shown in the past.
“Some of the advocates were unsolicited,” Lessard said. “And we purposely went out and talked with certain people as well. We called the references for the other applicants, but because Bill is in the community and we knew people who knew him, we solicited feedback from those people.”
Selectmen put Haynes to work immediately after he accepted the position.
“He left with our direction to issue a stop work order,” said Lessard. “We gave him the job and then said ‘go to work’ and there are some other building projects that he's going to visit. We actually gave him a list of things to start on.”
