NORWAY - Police say Mindy Zeegers, 19, 0f West Paris, was not intoxicated when she lost control of her car after a crash on Main Street, October 6.
According to Norway Police Sergeant James Ventresca, Zeegers was driving a sedan which pulled onto Main Street from the Norway Pines complex and collided with an SUV. Zeegers was knocked unconscious in the crash, but her foot was somehow jammed onto the gas pedal. The car kept moving, until a rear-seat passenger reached over her and managed to get control, bringing it to a stop on the lawn of the Norway Veterinary Clinic.
PACE ambulances took Zeegers and one of her passengers to Stephens Memorial Hospital, in Norway, for treatment of injuries. Both suffered head trauma and Zeegers also suffered a broken hip, said Ventresca.
At the time, police reported a strong smell of liquor in the car, as well as opened and unopened containers. While Zeegers was at the hospital, a blood sample was secured to determine if she had been drinking. The report was received by the Norway Police last week, informing them that her system was free of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. Ventresca said she will not be charged stemming from the crash.
