Woodstock FD may need funds, calls are way up
WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Fire Department might run out of money this year because of increased call volume, Fire Chief Geffrey Inman told the Woodstock Board of Selectmen Tuesday.
"The budget is getting dry," said Inman. "In the first three quarters, there have almost been as many calls as all last year."
Inman advised more money may be needed to get through the year. He said that the paid day shift budget is a different category and is not the reason for higher than expected costs.
The fire department is looking at a used squad truck in Ohio, said Inman.
"Ours is getting tired," he said.
The current vehicle was bought used 10 years ago. The one being considered has low mileage, is rigged with a 300-gallon tank and a pump, and would provide the department with a place to change for cold water rescue situations.
Inman also reported on a very successful fire prevention week, beginning with the Parade of Lights and including a visit to Woodstock Elementary School.
Tom Carroll, from Patriot Renewables, reported that the project "is still on schedule to be done by December." He said the company may offer tours of the site in November, safety permitting.
In other news, the board:
• Voted to give $300 to the Lakes Association to cover the final costs of fitting out the milfoil boat.
• Heard from Code Enforcement Officer Joelle Corey-Whitman on her continuing efforts to have some land owners clean up blighted properties.
• Voted to add a new light to Remembrance Park by the Post Office.
