OHCHS PSA wins Emmy
OXFORD HILLS — A PSA called "My Life, My Choice" that OHCHS senior Jesse Newcomb and Advanced Communications teacher Tim Ouillette helped create won the Emmy at the Boston-New England Emmy® Awards on June 2.
The awards ceremony took place at the Westin Copley Hotel in Boston. Neither Ouillette nor Newcomb were able to attend.
"I tuned in and watched it from home," said Ouillette, who received a text from the PSA's Producer, Chuck Green, 10 minutes before the category was called. "I literally tuned in as they were walking up on stage – and we won first place!"
On Monday, Ouillette said that a few of the PSA's creators were meeting in Boston that night to celebrate, but unfortunately he could not attend because he had to work the next morning.
In May, Ouillette and Newcomb were informed that the PSA had been nominated for the Emmy®.
The video was created by filmmakers of the New England Media Coalition (NEMC).
Newcomb scored the music, while Ouillette created the graphics.
The 30-second PSA is being aired on Boston's ABC affiliate WCVB-TV until December, said Ouillette. The PSA also took first place in the second annual Boston 7DayPSA Contest earlier this year, he added.
According to Ouillette, the video was nominated for "excellence in announcements that effectively focus interest in and marshal support for worthy community or area causes," such as getting young women out of the commercial sex industry – the focus of the "My Life, My Choice" PSA.
While he's proud of his accomplishment, Ouillette feels as though he doesn't deserve too much credit. "I honestly didn't feel like I put that much work into it," he said.
