Board agrees to more road maintenance
WOODSTOCK — After a lengthy discussion with residents of Billings Hill Road, the board of selectmen agreed to a program of increased summer maintenance on the road.
The scale of the work will be determined by Town Manager Vern Maxfield and Randy Eastman.
Billings Hill, off Route 232, was partially discontinued in 1938. Another part was closed to winter maintenance some years ago. Efforts by residents to have the road maintained and plowed by the town during the winter were defeated at town meeting this past March.
Board Chair Rick Young commented on the issue, saying, "It is a town road open to summer maintenance, then we have to continue maintaining it. To go beyond that, we are limited and need more information."
Bids for summer paving will be going out soon. The board would like to finish paving Old County Road, and pave the Town Office entrance, Bird Hill, Heikinen Road, Church Street and Dudley Road this year.
Another bid will be going out for work on Concord Pond Road. The town will bid out materials, equipment and labor for a contractor to work with the town crew.
In other news the board:
• Appointed Marc Wentworth and Dennis Poland to the Ad Hoc Wind Power Committee and Dan Hastings to the Recreation Committee.
• Filed 165 30-day notices on late property taxes.
• Reported that the new gazebo for the town common ought to have arrived Monday night.
• Reported that there will be a G & W Transfer Station Committee meeting at the Woodstock town office on May 22 at 5 p.m.
• Reported that the roadside spring received another "satisfactory" water quality test.
