Roads committee releases budget requests

NORWAY — The Norway roads committee has released its budget priorities for the fiscal year 2011-12 budget and beyond.

Town Manager David Holt presented the committee's priorities to the Board of Selectmen during its March 17 meeting.

The Roads Committee had met on March 8 to discuss what projects ought to be completed first.

Its list included work on Pleasant Street still to be completed with funds allocated last year which involves reclaiming and paving two sections of Pleasant Street and draws on $178,000 in existing funds already allocated for that purpose.

The projects recommended for 2011-12 will involve laying down a finishing coat on several already reclaimed roads. The road committee suggested, in order of priority, $40,500 for 3,332 feet of Morse Road, a total of $78,000 for 6,383 feet of Dunn and Shedd Roads, $52,500 for 4,310 feet of Town Farm Road, and $45,000 for 3,664 feet of Hemmingway Road.

The total allocation suggested by the roads committee for 2011-12 was $216,000.

Its recommendations also projected $274,500 worth of work for for next year, 2012-2013.  The recommendations included work on Frost Hill Road, Greenwood and Don Hunt Roads, Crockett Ridge Road #4, Crockett Ridge Road #5 and Korhonen Road.

The suggestions will be included on a preliminary budget drafted by Holt and to be reviewed in April by the budget committee and Board of Selectmen.
