FD gets boost from anonymous donor
NORWAY — The Norway Fire Department has gotten an unexpected boost from an anonymous donor.
A member of the community decided to help out the fire services with a $5,222 check, and local officials are united in their appreciation.
"This person really worked hard to raise the money and it really impressed me," said Town Manager David Holt.
Chief Dennis Yates echoed Holt's sentiments.
"I talked to the person six months ago about what we needed and I just heard about it this morning," said Yates Friday.
"Wow," he added.
The donation will help the department fill some very important and timely needs, said Yates. The $5,222 is specifically allocated for a new air pack, a set of two bottles, a mask and a voice box. The air pack is the largest expense, at $3,900.
"It's very much appreciated," said Yates, "A lot of [bottles] are up for replacement and we've been scraping together the money to get new ones."
Along with a check, the anonymous hero included a letter to Holt describing what the money was to be used for, and offering to assist even further if needed.
"Please tell Mr. Yates that if prices have changed, please let me know so that I can make up the difference."
While careful not to give away even the gender of the donor, Holt made it clear that that the donor was doing something truly selfless.
"This person did something really extraordinary," he said.
